Sophie Rostopchine, comtesse de Ségur, Paris, late 1840s. Full plate daguerreotype, 220x165 mm, old frame, glass replaced. Few women had the features and appearance of the Countess, of Russian origin, raised in the Orthodox religion and then converted to Catholicism. A fervent Christian after the ordination of her son Gaston on December 17, 1847, she entered religion under the name of Sister Marie-Françoise, Tertiary of Saint Francis in 1866. We compare with the Garte portrait, 1860 published by Goupil in the Galerie Contemporaine, 1878.
