GALLE family Two incomplete suites. Galle, Philips - Prosopographia, sive virtutum, animi, corporis, bonorum externorum, vitiorum, et affectuum variorum delineatio [...] Distichis à Cornelio Kiliano Dufflaeo illustrata. [Antwerp, Ph. Galle, c. 1585-1590]. Set of 40 engr., +/- 15 x 9 cm, laid paper 18,5 x 13,5 cm (paper brown., some (damp)stains, etc.). Bound in 1 vol., 19,5 x 14,5 cm. Somewhat later (?) sheep, repeated pattern of gilt crowns, fleur-de-lys and monogr. "L" on covers (rubbed , corners rounded, some wormholes). Content: title, dedication to Marie de Meleyn and 38 (of 43) nice allegorical plates (lacking 1, 31, 35, 36 and 39), including the representations of the 4 continents. Galle, Theodor - Icones ad veridicum christianum P. Ioannis David e Societate Iesu. Antwerp, Ph. Galle, 1601. Set of 70 engr., +/- 16 x 8,5 cm, laid paper 19,5 x 13,5 cm (rather poor condition, title underlaid, (damp)stains, a few pl. roughly handcol., etc.). Bound in 1 vol., 20 x 15 cm. Contemp. vellum. Content: title and 69 (of 100) emblematical plates, with captions in Latin, Dutch and French. At the end, "Concentus musicus versibus veridici christiani coaptatus", 8 pp. of printed music.
