Antwerp [1609 or 1612] Copper engr., 42 x 56,5 cm, full col., heavy paper (restoration by leaf casting, remargined, borders redrawn). Still good copy. 2nd state (no copy known of the 1st state) of the map of the Low Countries from the Latin Vrients edition of Ortelius' Theatrum. North-west at top. Nice title cartouche adorned with the coats-of-arms of the XVII Provinces and the figures of Mars and Hermes. Compass-rose with rhumblines and Dutch names. In the stippled sea number of vessels, sea monsters, and Neptune riding a sea-horse. Ref. van den Broecke, 59. State 2.
