Sir Alexander Allan Bt. (1764-1820) Views in the Mysore Country 20 uncoloured aquatints unbound engraved title page dedicated to Charles Marquis Cornwallis K. G. Governor General of Bengal 6 sheets/12pp. descriptive letterpress pages at end all pierced in margins left side and tied together Sheet sizes 48 x 69cm; 19 x 27¼in A rare book of views of India. Allan was a painter and politician who joined the East India Company as a cadet in 1779. He served in the Madras Infantry from 1780 and took part in the third and fourth Mysore wars and this book came from images drawn towards the end of the third campaign. He was a military topographer of some note and produced works for the British public particularly to feed their growing interest in Tipu Sultan.
