However, as a woman she could not join his studio with all male students. In acknowledgment of her talent, Koekkoek provided private lessons to Van Sandick at her own residence.As Van Sandick herself recalled:‘Deze Koekkoek wilde mij op zijn atelier hebben, maar in die tijd ging dat niet zo. […]Hij kwam dan ook bij mij aan huis […] op atelier ben ik nooit geweest’.Anna van Sandick was one of the only Dutch female landscape painters active in the midst of the nineteenth century.
