Statuette en porcelaine de Meissen répresentant une femme polonaise, circa 1745
A Meissen figure of a Polish woman, circa 1745
Modelled by J.J. Kaendler, J.F. Eberlein and J.G. Ehder, holding a fan in her left hand, wearing a bonnet, fur-lined green coat secured by a yellow bow, a dress decorated with flower sprigs and a broad, gilt-edged yellow stripe at the front, a gilt-edged puce underskirt and yellow shoes with purple bows, the base applied with leaves and flowers, 15.5cm high, painter's mark of a purple triangle (very minor chips)

The figure is listed in J.J. Kaendler's work reports in December 1743: 'Ein Polak Weibel in Thon zu poußiren angefangen, zum Waaren Laager' [a Polish woman begun in clay, to the warehouse]. According to their respective work records, the model was apparently subsequently worked on by Eberlein in January 1744 and by Ehder in April (quoted by S-K. Andres-Acevedo, Die autonomen figürlichen Plastiken [...], vol. 2 (2023), p. 157).
Kaendler's Taxa includes: '1. Frauenzimmer mit einer Taillien Andriene mit weiten Fischbein-Rocke, Handshuhe auf den Händen, in der lincken eine Fächer habend, tanzende, vorgestellt ' [1 female figure with an andrienne bodice and wide crinoline dress, gloves on her hands, a fan in her left hand, depicted dancing].
