Attributed to MICHAEL POWOLNY (Austria, 1871 -1954) for LOETZ. Blown glass, bent glass and opaline. Measurements: 18 x 13,5 x 13,5 cm. Michael Powolny was an Austrian sculptor, medalist, ceramist, designer and teacher. Powolny was born in Judenburg. He trained at the Tonindustrie in Znaim and, from 1894 to 1901, at the Wiener Kunstgewerbeschule. In 1906 he founded, together with Bertold Löffler, the Wiener Keramik workshop, which a year later became part of the Wiener Werkstätte. Powolny made several designs for the Austrian manufacture Loetz, founded in 1840 and a pioneer in the use of innovative techniques and materials, following the line of experimentation of the glass artists of the second half of the nineteenth century. The firm participated in the International Exhibition in Paris in 1889, where his pieces were unanimously acclaimed by critics.
