Kaleidoscope Quilt signed and dated by Mary Schafer, 1980. It measures 79x100". This quilt is from the Mary Schafer Collection. She was the quilter and collector from the book Mary Schafer - American Quilt Maker by Gwen Marston. Comprised of 35 blocks, 10.5x10.5", set straight, 5 by 7, with a 7" solid off white inner border, followed by a 2.5" yellow border with cornerstones, and a 4" orange outer border. It is hand pieced, hand quilted, and hand embroidered. Thin cotton batting and an off white cotton reverse. The edge is finished with an applied white binding, by hand. MARY SCHAFER: AMERICAN QUILT MAKER pg 159: This is one of the series of simple quilts designed to encourage new quilters. It is in very good condition. There is a sleeve attached along the top back edge for hanging. This is a rare opportunity to own a piece of important Quilt History!
