KUPKA, Frantisek (1871-1957) - Quatre histoires de blanc et noir. Paris: Marcel Baque, 1926. Copy n. 205 of 300 complete of the 26 full page woodcuts and in excellent condition. An important illustrated work by the Czech artist Františeck (Frank) Kupka, one of the founders of abstract art. In 1894 Kupka moved to Paris and worked as a graphic designer for books and posters. He was influenced by both the Fauves and the Futurists and from 1910 onwards his work became more and more abstract. His interest in colour and movement brought him closer to Orphism and with the Section d'Or Cubists, and in 1931 he was a founding member of Abstraction-Création. Folio (334 x 250mm). 26 woodcuts including title and with the others numbered 2-26, with two titles (the extra title with some light foxing and traces of adhesive on the verso). Editorial wrappers printed in black on the front cover and spine (slightly darkened and without the editorial folder and case as often, extremities a touched rubbed). Si tratta di un'importante opera illustrata dell'artista ceco Františeck (Frank) Kupka, uno dei fondatori dell'arte astratta. Nel 1894 Kupka si trasferì a Parigi e lavorò come grafico per libri e poster. Fu influenzato sia dai Fauve che dai futuristi e dal 1910 in poi il suo lavoro divenne sempre più astratto. Il suo interesse per il colore e il movimento lo fece avvicinare a Orphism e la Section d'Or Cubists, e nel 1931 fu membro fondatore di Abstraction-Création. Folio (334 x 250mm). 26 xilografie di cui la prima usata come frontespizio e le altre numerate 2-26, con due frontespizi presenti (quello extra con lievi fioriture e tracce di nastro adesivo al verso). Brossura editoriale stampata in nero al piatto anteriore e dorso (leggermente arrossata e, come spesso avviene, senza la cartella editoriale e custodia, minimi difetti alle estremità).
