This "Bust of André Leproust" (1904), which has nothing to do with his well-known animalier facet, was executed a year before he tended towards the simplification which was to be the distinctive feature of his most characteristic style, i.e. polished surfaces and no anecdotal details visible in his animals. Here, then, he is still traditional, in the presumed portrait of this child at the age of nine. A mask of the same model and from the same year is kept in the museum of his native town.
