This fascinating frontispiece illustrates the various riches and industry of South America, focusing on silver mining operations at Potosí (Bolivia) with a stylized view of the mountain city and mines. In the foreground are scenes of trading and in the background volcanoes and a flotilla of silver-laden galleons. Engr. by Joseph de Montalegre after Johannes Degler, used as frontispiece of the section devoted to America in the "Atlas novus" of Heinrich Scherer.
