HERZEN ALEXANDER: (1812-1870) Russian writer and thinker, known as the 'father of Russian socialism'. Signed and inscribed 8vo unbound edition of Nouvelle Phase de la Litterature Russe, published by C. Muquardt, Libraire-Editeur, Brussels, 1864, the French text edition signed and inscribed by Herzen to the title page, 'Monsieur Acollas, Souvenir affect. de la part de l'Auteur' and dated Geneva, 13th April 1866 in his hand. The plain paper wrappers a little soiled and with some heavy tears, the contents a little creased at the edges and with some small tears and age wear, FR   The present volume is likely to have been inscribed for Emile Acollas (1826-1891) French professor of jurisprudence, one of the founders of the League of Peace and Freedom in 1867.
