Très rare et insolite montre de gousset à cadran ouvert en or jaune 18K (750) à répétition avec automate érotique dissimulé remontoir à clef A very rare and unusual 18K gold key wind open face repeating pocket watch with concealed erotic automaton Date: Circa 1810 Movement: Gilt full plate verge, pierced and engraved balance bridge, silver regulation, two hammers striking on blued gongs Dial: Guilloché engraved with central decorative motif, black Roman numerals to brushed surround, black outer minute divisions, concealed aperture at 6 bearing signature Breguet a Paris, erotic automaton beneath aperture activated via stem, blued hands Case: Engine turned hinged, start/stop slide at 1, slide at 10 to reveal erotic automaton, No.35008, 6857 Size: 54mm Weight: 115,20g Footnotes: Erotic automaton watches originated in Europe during the late 18th century usually within a concealed compartment with opening doors to reveal the explicit scene either automatically when chiming or more commonly manually to allow the owner the option of displaying the explicit act or not. The current lot is a fine example of a repeating pocket watch with the erotic automaton concealed above 6 o'clock. The aperture is opened by a slide in the band at 1 which draws back two panels to reveal the lovers. This example is particularly discreet and when the panel is in place there is nothing to indicate this watch is anything other than an innocent timepiece. For further information on this lot please visit Bonhams.com Movement: Repeat functions but movement is not running and will require attention before seeing use Dial: Minor dents and tarnishing throughout, signature is spurious, some light scratches Hands: Tarnished, losses to the blueing Glass: Overall good Case: Surface scratches throughout, engine turning is rubbed, minor dents to the band throughout. Disc at 6 is spuriously signed Breguet We do not test any watches for their accuracy and as such timekeeping cannot be guaranteed. We advise that if you are bidding on a watch, that you or your agents are completely satisfied with the condition of the lot. We recommend that all watches are serviced and polished after the sale as they are handled throughout the viewing period. Please note that although Bonhams endeavour to include reference to any replacement parts within our Condition Reports we cannot confirm that each individual element of the watch is original or that, if replaced, the replacement has been made using original manufacturer's parts.
