Amphora with handles. Murano, second half of the 20th century. Blown Murano glass. No signature. Provenance: Private collection, Spain between 1970-1990. Measurements: 19 cm (height) x 10 cm (largest diameter). Amphora with handles in blown Murano glass with mottled decoration in blue, white, red and yellow colours. Murano's reputation as a glass-making centre was born when the Republic of Venice, fearing fires and the destruction of the wooden buildings in the city, ordered the glassmakers to move their foundries to Murano in 1291. Murano glass is still associated with Venetian glass. The various homes in which Vivien Leigh lived gave free rein to her decorative skills, creating an eclectic and varied ornamental line based on the collection of luxurious, sophisticated and high quality objects.
