Pair of paperweights; Baccarat and Sèvres, France, circa 1970. Modelled glass. One of the pieces has a satin finish. The sphinx has slight damage and use marks on the base, legs and body. One of the pieces has a Sèvrés stamp. Provenance: Private Spanish collection, formed between 1970 and 1995. Measurements: 11 x 10 x 6 cm (portrait of a young man); 8 x 5 x 12 cm (sphinx). Lot made up of two glass sculptures; one of them is in the shape of a sphinx, while the other shows the face of a young woman, modelled on a translucent surface in a square format. Both pieces stand out for the delicacy and elegance of their forms, a characteristic associated in turn with the support, as the transparency of the glass exudes a sense of fragility. Both the Baccarat glass factory and Sévres are popular for their great mastery and quality in the glass technique. Both firms are located in France.
