EDVIN ÖHRSTRÖM (Sweden, 1906-1994) for ORREFORS. Cascade vase, ca. 1940. Moulded glass. Signed "Orrefors n.3436". Procedure: Private Collection, Spain between 1970-1990. Measurements: 30.4 cm (height) x 16 cm (diameter). Tall vase with a circular base and a slightly flared, cascade-shaped body, designed to resemble the corolla of a flower. The quality of the materials and carving is typical of Orrefors' work. It is a design by Edvin Örström for Orrefors, a glass company with which he worked for two months a year from 1932 to 1957. Orrefors, together with Kosta Boda, has dominated the Swedish glass market. Orrefors has a team of designers who personalise each piece. The mastery of craftsmanship is combined with technological development and the personalisation of each designer. They take up old traditional techniques, such as engraving and deep cutting of the glass, infusing them with a modern concept.
