VAN THULDEN, Theodoor. After Peter Paul Rubens Pompa Introitus Ferdinandi. Antwerp Gaspar Gevaerts 1635-1641 15 large etchings, various states and conditions. The Entry of the Cardinal-Infante Ferdinand in Antwerp in April 1635 as new gouvernor of the Low Countries can be regarded as one of the most festive and sumptuous events in Antwerp history. Rubens made oil sketches for all stages, canvasses and arches, which were published in a series of 43 large-scale prints by Theodoor van Thulden in 1641 to commemorate the event.
