The vision of the Evangelist. 1760 Drawing, red chalk, 32,5 x 20 cm, laid paper with watermark (not in Heawood), unsigned, dated at lower left "Die erste invention 1760" (minor stains at corners). An allegorical religious scene with the Virgin and Child at the right and a man reading to the left (an Evangelist?). On top God the Father blessing a globe, surrounded by putti and cherubs. Possibly a first sketch in preparation for a large altarpiece, as indicated by the carved shape on top and the inscription below.
