AN IMPORTANT LATE HELLENISTIC GOLD RING WITH STEPPED BEZEL SET WITH GARNET AND SAPPHIRE CABOCHON STONES, 2ND CENTURY B.C. 1,7 in. Total high / 1,4 in. Bezel length / 0,7 x 074 in. Int. The ring of a complex construction and architectural design is composed of a hollow bezel with a serie of sharply molded hexagonal steps endinf with a large cabochon garnet. The hoop is solid and boat-shaped, a small oval sapphire is set in the center of the hoop at the bottom. The hoop attaches to the bezel by means of hinged elements held by pegs. Cette bague à la construction complexe est constituée d’un large chaton creux composé d’une série de sections hexagonales moulées en or se terminant par un grenat taille cabochon de grande dimension. L’anneau en or massif de forme ovale est rattaché au chaton par des jointures à chevilles. Il est serti d’un petit saphir de taille ovale, disposé au centre et diamétralement opposé au grenat.
