One of the most popular themes in Christian art, the present work Adoration of the Magi was painted in 17th century and was inspired by the famous versions of this subject that the Flemish Baroque artist Peter Paul Rubens addressed several times during his life. Traditionally, horizontal forms rather than vertical might suggest that pieces were commissioned for secular purposes.
