Demètre H. Chiparus, 'Leaving the opera', c. 1922, Young lady, wrapped in a fur-trimmed cape, walking down a flight of stairs. H. 23.5 cm (with base). Cold painted bronze, head and hand made of carved ivory. Base signed: DH Chiparus (incised). Red marble base. This lot contains materials protected by the Washington conservation agreement such as ivory, rhino horn, rosewood etc. Many countries have changed their import / export laws regarding these materials in recent years.
