A rare and important E.Barrois bisque shoulder head fashion doll in her original Melle Jeanne trunk with extensive trousseau, French 1860s, the beautiful pale bisque head with fixed blue glass eyes, finely painted lashes and brows, closed mouth with tinted lips, slightly rouged cheeks and with her original cork pate and blonde wig with red ribbon to front, fixed neck to kid body with nicely moulded glazed china arms, wearing all original red flannel and grey striped silk dress with puff sleeves and soutache trim, red felt wide brimmed hat, underclothes, red wool slippers and socks, (condition: head perfect, professional restoration to tips of three middle fingers to right hand), insiced E B DEPOSE to front of shoulder plate, 17” (43cm) tall, together with her labelled Melle Jeanne wood and metal studded trunk with carry handles and two inner trays, shop labels for ’29, Rue du Faubourg-Poissonniere, 29, Censier Fils, Fabrique Generale d’Articles de Voyage.’ Trousseau includes winter navy and green tartan two piece skirt and jacket with red pleated trim, edged with black braid and decorated with brass buttons, long black silk gown with short sleeves pleated red hem edged with glass beads, black velvet coat and fur hat lined in pink silk, red wool pleated long length dress with patterned braid detail and red felt coat, fawn felt jacket with pleated trim and pockets, tweed riding jacket with metal buttons, light blue silk skirt with black velvet ribbon to hem and black long sleeved top, black silk three piece mourning gown, grey flannel shawl with blue silk lining and fur trim, cream shawl, ribbed white cotton skirt with spring flower pattern, three knitted cape’s and bonnet, pink and black silk bonnet and spats, trunk 17 ½” (45cm) wide.
