BENIN - ARIETE IN BRONZO Nigeria L'immagine dell'ariete, ricorrente nell'arte del Benin, è sempre associata al re ed alle sue funzioni di potere. L'animale sacro è qui mostrato saldamente piantato sulle quattro zampe muscolose e con l'imponente testa ben ritta sul largo collo. Splendida fusione in bronzo ad alto tenore di rame, caratterizzata dalla estrema levigatezza dell'insieme rotta solo dall'elegante lavorazione "sgraffi ata" della folta criniera e delle orecchie. Raro e bellissimo esempio di arte nigeriana del XVII secolo, caratterizzato dall'alto livello di esecuzione, in ottime condizioni di conservazione. The sacred animal is depicted on four muscular legs, with an imposing head fi rmly resting on the wide neck. A splendid bronze cast with a high tenor of copper, it is characterized by the extreme overall smoothness broken up by the elegant scratch marks, to depict the dense mane, and by the ears. A rare and very fi ne example of 17th century Nigerian art, characterized by the fi ne quality execution; in an excellent state of conservation. L. 30 cm.
