Unsigned Japan, Kyoto, 18th century to early 19th century, Edo period (1615-1868) The small rat with dark inlaid eyes emerging from a straw hat (kasa), having gnawed its way through from the underside with its tail and part of its body still visible, the straw, fur, and other details finely incised, the himotoshi to the underside cleverly incorporated into the design. DIAMETER 4.5 cm, HEIGHT 1.5 cm Condition: Excellent condition with a fine patina, attractively worn. Provenance: German private collection.
