MADRE de DIOS, Juan de la Letter, with autograph signature, relating to the Discalced Carmelite nuns of Lille. 2 May 1661 1 f. folded (29,5 x 19 cm), on paper, in French, with an applied seal. As Provincial of the order in the Low Countries, Juan de la Madre de Dios (1578-1673) authorised the nuns to contribute financially to the maintenance of their convent. He also occupied the function of royal preacher in the service of the representatives of the King of Spain in the Low Countries and became confessor to Cardinal-Infante Ferdinand (1609/10-1641). This is why, in 1634, in the Church of St. James on Coudenberg, he pronounced the funeral oration in memory of Archduchess Isabella Clara Eugenia (printed the same year in Brussels). Ref.
