MASTER OF DELFT Christ preaching and The Arrest of Christ. 1499 and 1503 2 woodcuts (of which 1 hand-coloured), 24,5 x 18,5 and 19 x 13,5 cm, laid paper (some min. brown spots). Good impressions. Woodcut illustrations to the Dutch translation of Ludolphus de Saxonia's "Vita Jesu Christi". One hand-coloured woodcut, featuring the Arrest of Christ, originates from the edition published by P. Van Os in Zwolle in 1499. The second woodcut originates from the edition published in Antwerp by Heinrich Eckert in 1503 as "Dit es tleve ons liefs heeren ihesu christi". These very expressive still strongly Gothic inspired woodcuts are some of the most beautiful examples of early graphic art. Dutch text in Gothic letters on the back. Ref.
