WTEWAEL, Paulus Portrait of Bartholomeus Schweickher Lusitanus. [Hoorn 1570] Copperplate, 16,7 x 11,4 cm, signed with monogram in the plate "P.V.W" (two corrosion stains, not affecting the oval portrait). Original copperplate for the portrait engraving of Bartholomeus Schweicker Lusitanus, with the devise "Souvvent faire bien parler". Paulus Wtewael (1555-1611) was active as medalist and engraver in Hoorn. His prints have become a rarity on the art market. This is one of the first copperplates for sale by this artist.
