We have found them very interesting companions. Mr Gould sailed this morning for Sidney leaving Mrs Gould with us as a hostage for his speedy return. They have both been indefatigable since their arrival, and I should think Mr Gould has left little for the ornithologists that may follow him. Let me now beg to introduce to you Mr Montagu, the colonial secretary of V[an] D[iemen's] Land who is returning to England on leave of absence. He is a gentleman of considerable talent and thoroughly acquainted with everything that relates to the civil, military & penal transactions of the colony, and is therefore most competent to give any information you may request regarding it. I know that he takes an interest in the products of the Geographical Society and I shall therefore be glad if you will do me the kindness of inviting him to be present at some of your meetings.
