Le Port de Beyrouth, Liban Aquarelle et crayon sur papier situé à “Beyrouth” en bas à gauche 21 x 17 cm Provenance : > Collection privée, Beyrouth-Paris Le port de Beyrouth est mentionné dès le XVe siècle avant J-C. dans des lettres échangées entre Pharaons et phéniciens. Puis, à l'époque romaine, le port s’est transformé en véritable poumon commercial et économique pour toute la région. Sous l'ère omayyade, le port de Beyrouth devient le centre de la première flotte arabe puis, pendant les Croisades, fait office de pont entre l’Orient et l'Occident. Ce rôle, déjà consolidé sous l'ère mamelouke, lui a permis de devenir le pôle d’attraction des pèlerins voyant en Terre Sainte. Ce n’est qu’à la fin du XIXe siècle que le port de Beyrouth a pris son visage actuel. --- The Beirut Port has been mentioned since the fifteenth century BC in the mutual letters of the Pharaohs and the Phoenicians, and during the Roman Era, it was developed into a commercial and economic center. During the Omayyad Era, the Port of Beirut became the center for the First Arabic Fleet. As for the Crusaders Era, the Port of Beirut had an important role in the maritime trade between East and West. This role had been fortified during the Mameluke Era when it was turned into a commercial center visited by pilgrims of the Holy Lands.
