Passionné par l'Orient, il loue avec difficulté une chambre-atelier chez une jeune veuve dans la casbah d'Alger. De sa terrasse, il peint cours et fontaines, ruelles et places, témoignage irremplaçable sur l'Alger au tournant du XXème siècle.
