A FINE IVORY NETSUKE OF A RECUMBENT HORSE Unsigned Japan, Kyoto, early 19th century, Edo period (1615-1868) A fine model of a recumbent stallion with its head turned backwards, charmingly smiling. The mane is finely incised, as is the swinging tail. The ivory is smoothly polished and lustrous in its appearance. The hooves are finely carved, two of them neatly tucked underneath its body. Good, asymmetrical himotoshi through the underside. LENGTH 5 cm Condition: Fine condition with two old age cracks. Provenance: French private collection.
