Christ in Majesty” or Maiestas Domini". Carved wooden sculpture. Romanesque. 12th – 13th century. Magnificent sculpture depicting Christ in Majesty - Christian iconography that represents the figure of Christ triumphant, also known as the Pantocrator. This image is habitually found on the tympanums of the exterior doors of churches, or painted on the vaulting of apses. This particular sculpture is an unusual example, a free-standing sculpture made from a single piece of wood. With a serene expression, seated on a throne and covered with a tunic and a cloak that falls from the left shoulder to the legs, then to the floor. He is holding the Holy Scriptures in His left hand. Flaws. Height: 35 cm
