A Dutch oak and ebony cupboard or 'Beeldenkast' Ca. 1650-70, partially adapted, The deep moulded cornice above a carved frieze consisting of four panels decorated with hunting scenes, alternated with five carved putto heads, above four doors divided by a scrollwork frieze and decorated with reliefs carved with scenes from the Biblical story of Joseph, the scenes framed by ebony panels and alternated with six allegorical figures representing Cardinal and Theological Virtues, the doors to the superstructure applied with the scenes of Joseph sharing his prophetic dream, and Joseph being sold into slavery by his brothers, flanked and divided by the three figures of Wisdom, Charity, and Hope, the doors of the base applied with the scenes of Joseph and Potiphar's wife, and Joseph in prison, above the scenes of Joseph interpreting the Pharaoh’s dream, and Joseph meeting his brothers, the four scenes flanked and divided by the three figures of Fortitude, Justice, and Prudence, each terminating in a spreading base carved in relief with putto heads, scrolls, and festoons, the base drawer decorated with two friezes carved with putto heads and foliate scrolls, divided by lion’s masks, on scalloped bun feet. 216 x 179 x 82 cm, For comparable Dutch cupboards, see Loek van Aalst and Annigje Hofstede, Noord-Nederlandse meubelen van renaissance tot vroege barok 1550-1670, Houten (Hes & de Graaf Publishers) 2011, pp. 108-119. ,
