A TWO-PARTITE ICON SHOWING THE DEISIS AND THREE SELECTED SAINTS Greek, 17th century Tempera on wood panel with gesso. Executed on a gold ground. The haloes ornately tooled. The oversized figure of Christ at the centre, seated on a throne with red cushions, his feet resting on a red cushion of the same pattern. His hand raised in blessing, supporting the Gospels on his knee. The Mother of God and John the Baptist inclining their heads towards him. The lower register depiciting St. Nicholas franked by the warrior saint Demetrius and a St. Gerasimos with an open scroll. The facial features accentuated by white striations, the figures depicted in bold outlines, the drapery rendered with stylized gradating tones. Areas of retouching to the background. 42 x 35.5 cm. Eitempera auf Kreidegrund, Hintergrund vergoldet, ornamentale Punzierung der Nimben. 42 x 35,5 cm. Achsialsymmetrischer Bildaufbau mit dem auf einem Thron mit Sitzkissen thronenden Christus flankiert von der Gottesmutter und Johannes dem Taeufer. Am unteren Rand erscheint in einem schmalen Band der heilige Nikolaus von Myra flankiert von dem Kriegerheiligen Demetrius und dem Moench Gerasimos mit geoeffneter Schriftrolle. Hintergrund min. rest.
