Antonio Carnicero (1748 - 1814) "Portrait of Ferdinand VII as Prince of Asturias" Oil on canvas. Circa 1791. 126 x 91 cm. Carnicero was named Chamber Painter of Charles IV in 1796. He was Ferdinand VII´s painting tutor, and painted his portrait on various occasions, also painting his brothers, Carlos María Isidro and Francisco de Paula. In his report, Enrique Valdivieso highlights that "With regard to this child portrait of Ferdinand VII, it can be noted that Carnicero had the creative spirit of Goya with him at that time, and for this reason there are many stylistic references to the great painter. In this painting, he made an enormous effort to imitate Goya´s style, both in the boy´s physical expression and the description of the suit he is wearing as well as in the way of arranging the furniture and curtains in the background, inspiring a gentle and intimate image.” The painting comes with Enrique Valdivieso González´s report dated February 2017.
