The silvered bronze statue of a tiny naked woman emerging from an abstract mass by artist Maggi Hambling, recently unveiled in north London, sparked criticism on social media for the choice of a naked woman to honor a historic figure. Hambling argues that the sculpture “celebrates the spirit of Mary Wollstonecraft.”

Fairs are still off the agenda in Belgium, so Art Brussels Week 2021 had to reinvent itself and design a new format at the last minute.

Although many a fair (like Paris Photo from 2013 to 2015) has come a cropper there, the indomitable British Frieze, with its golden touch, has now moved into the West Coast. 

The coronavirus did not get the better of the 26th edition of the New York art fair, which ran until March 8 on the quays of the Hudson River. Collectors turned up from the VIP day onwards, and sales were fairly sustained throughout the week.
