UK sculpture dedicated to feminist Mary Wollstonecraft (1757-1797) sparks backlash

The silvered bronze statue of a tiny naked woman emerging from an abstract mass by artist Maggi Hambling, recently unveiled in north London, sparked criticism on social media for the choice of a naked woman to honor a historic figure. Hambling argues that the sculpture “celebrates the spirit of Mary Wollstonecraft.”
