The Scottish sculptor and painter William Turnbull (1922-2012) is famous for his figurative and minimalist sculptures. Here it takes the form of a woman reflecting the vocabulary of primitive idols.

After remaining with the painter's descendants for many years, this unique group of works from his studio illustrated his virtuosic ability to capture expression and feeling, with a grand total of €431,360.

William Turnbull (1922-2012), a minimalist and figurative sculptor, has made few appearances at auction in France. On June 25 at Drouot, under the hammer of Kâ-Mondo, his Female Figure (1989) fetched €215,338. A French record for this friend of both Giacometti and Brancusi.

From 11 September 2019 to 2 February 2020, the London museum will present the "largest survey of work by William Blake in the UK for a generation", through over 300 "rarely seen" pieces, says the press release. It will notably reveal the active role of his wife Catherine in his works' production. 

The National Portrait Gallery in Washington D.C. has revealed its seven recipients of “Portrait of a Nation” for 2022. These selections are based on people who have made important contributions to the lives of Americans. Among those chosen are Serena and Venus Williams, Dr Anthony Fauci and Clive Davis.

Created in 1897 by William Barak, an important Wurundjeri artist of the 19th century, a painting and a shield, offered in a New York auction, were acquired thanks to the participation of the Victorian government, which stepped in to complete an appeal launched by his descendants for donations launched in April. 

The English Arts and Crafts designer lived for 25 years in the 17th-century Kelmscott Manor, his Oxfordshire home, which he described as “heaven on earth”. The property reopens on April 1, following 2 years of extensive restoration and conservation funded in part by a UK National Lottery Heritage Fund grant. 

William, Duke of Normandy, set sail to Engin his vast flagship named La Mora on September 27, 1066. He then invaded and conquered England. Now, a historical society from Normandy will recreate that same ship as depicted in the Bayeux tapestry, a 70-meter (229 ft) embroiled account of the Norman conquest. (TheGuardian)
