Miss.Tic (1956-2022)

The artist, well-known for her stencils throughout the French capital, passed away yesterday. She started with self-portraits, going on to portray other women. Her works often included powerful quotes. Some of her artwork has been acquired by London’s V&A and “le Fonds d'art contemporain de la Ville de Paris”. (CNews)

The Hôtel de Ville de Paris will devote its new exhibition - accessible with free admission - to street art. "Capitale(s): 60 Years of Urban Art in Paris!" draws up a panorama of the movement through the works of more than 70 artists, from Invader to Miss Tic. From October 15 to February 11, reservations necessary.

Weeks after disappearing, Peter Beard is still missing. His family explained yesterday in a statement that "each passing day darkens the prospect of his safe return".

The disappearance this weekend of the bicycle accompanying a Banksy mural, depicting a girl using a tire as a hula-hoop, sparked sadness among locals. Created in October the mural was an instant success attracting sightseers. City council stated the building owner removed the bike for “safekeeping”. (Guardian)

The earliest securely dated example of early alphabetic writing in the Southern Levant has been found by archaeologists on a broken pottery shard. Dating to 1450 BCE, the ink writing is a mix of symbols and hieroglyphs, suggesting that the system spread into the Levant earlier than originally thought. (Antiquity)

Stolen from the reserves of the Musée de l'Homme at the end of the 1960s, then acquired in 1981 by the late Ben Heller from a Belgian merchant, the piece is now on its way to Quai Branly through the King Baudouin Foundation and the curator at the American Museum of Natural History Gabrielle Tieu (qda).

An oil painting by Ernest Holden of the Grade II listed Rock Hall in Farnworth had been missing since the 1930s when it was found on eBay by campaigners trying to renovate the building. The painting was listed by Derian House Children’s Hospice, who gifted it to the Rock Hall campaigners. (BBC)

The 15-inch finger, found in the Louvre in 2018, had been misidentified as a toe, before being recognized by researcher Aurélia Azéma. Using a “non-invasive, reversible and invisible system,” it has now been restored “perfectly” to its rightful place. The statue is located in Rome’s Capitoline Museums. (Guardian)
