Magdalene Odundo (Née en 1950)

This auction showcases works by Louis XIV's painter, from portraits of the rich and famous to Mary Magdalene meditating on earthly vanities.

Of prestigious provenance, Titian's Penitent Magdalene had been thought lost in the 19th century. The painting raised €4.8 million at the Dorotheum in Vienna. According to Artprice, it is in the top 3 records for the Italian master, behind a Holy Conversation ($16.8M, 2011) and Venus and Adonis (£7.48M, 1991).

This sculpture, with its rich symbolism and delicate beauty, is closely related to the works of Jan Borman I.

On Wednesday, the Malawi-born artist and professor Samson Kambalu, who is a fellow of Magdalen College, Oxford, will become the 14th artist to unveil a work on the fourth plinth in Trafalgar Square.
