As the Pompidou Centre hosts a Georg Baselitz retrospective until March 7, the nearby Galerie Putman offers a more intimate glimpse of his work.

To honor the Metropolitan Museum of Art’s 150th anniversary, German figurative artist Georg Baselitz has donated six of his upside-down paintings, all painted in 1969. They will be on display as part of the museum’s ‘Georg Baselitz: Pivotal Turn’ exhibition until July 18. (Artnet)

In conjunction with "Baselitz-The Retrospective," at the Centre Pompidou until March 7, Zero Dom, a 29.5 ft sculpture, will be on view in front of the Academy of Fine Arts from October 20. Baselitz has been a foreign associate member of the Academy since 2019 and will be officially inducted on October 27.

Having been appointed to the prestigious Académie des Beaux-Arts on October 27, 2021 – the first German to receive the honor this century - Baselitz now has a monumental sculpture in the courtyard of the academy. It will remain in place until March 7, 2022.

"I am rough, naïve and Gothic", said Georg Baselitz, born Hans-Georg Kern in 1938 in the village of Deutschbaselitz (near Dresden), whose name he took in 1961. Three adjectives that encapsulate his considerable paintings, sculptures and engravings, presented here in eleven equally powerful sequences.

German art historian and collector Dorette Staab has donated 65 paintings and works on paper to the museum, including 11 early works by painter Georg Baselitz. Born in 1938, the artist will be the subject of a retrospective at the Centre Pompidou opening October 20.

Planned for the beginning of the year, the inauguration of its Parisian gallery dedicated to the second market will finally take place on September 7 at 8, avenue Matignon. On the five floors of the renovated mansion, works by Georg Baselitz, Alexander Calder, Lee Ufan & Donna Huanca (among others) will be on display.

The sale of about 50 George Papazov works by his descendants provides an opportunity to rediscover the Bulgarian artist. The dreamlike quality of his paintings links him to the Surrealist movement.

The British-American collectors own around 5000 works of contemporary art, now on show in a former monastery and fortified castle in northern Germany. George Baselitz sold the complex and his art collection to Andrew Hall in 2006, who renovated it in order to create “one of the biggest museums in the world.” (Monopol)
