Chana Orloff (1888-1968)

Two bronzes by a key artist of the Paris school dedicated to the sculptor's vision of femininity.

This cement sculpture from the collection of Chana Orloff’s friend Jean Paulhan attests that portraiture was her favorite genre.

Renovation work on the house-studio, Villa Seurat in Paris, of the tapestry renovator and member of the Academy of Fine Arts, Jean Lurçat, began on June 29, with a view to opening it to the public. Bequeathed to the Academy in 2010, the house was built by the architect André Lurçat, brother of the artist.

This sale brings together 25 great names from the 1880s to the 1980s, including Ruhlmann, Gallé, Lalique, Prouvé, Duvinage and Chiparus.

The Couple, which has never come up for auction before, reintroduces us to an astonishingly modern artist, who was part of the 1920s Paris art scene.

It is the end of an era. On 28 January, Félix Marcilhac, 78, died while napping at home in Marrakech with his German shepherd, César, at his side. A key player on the Art Nouveau and Art Deco market who loved the 1920s, he was an antique dealer, expert, collector and historian.

Part two of the Marcel Sztejnberg sale features nearly 170 lots, including porcelain and 17th and 18th-century silverware.

With this second sale, the success of the highly original silverware from Marcel Sztejnberg's collection continued unabated.
