Fashion Designer Vanessa Bruno Admires Sheila Hicks and Hubert Lenoir

On 06 April 2021, by La Gazette Drouot

The French fashion designer was chosen to take over the presidency of the MoCo, a new contemporary art center in Montpellier, which opened in June 2019.

What do you like most: painting, objects, photography?
Photography, because I carry those images with me like moments in life that inspire me, and that embody the women I love through my fashion.

An artist or work that has caught your eye recently?
Hubert Lenoir’s concert. It’s been a long time since something has smacked me in the face like that. It’s Bowiesque punk.

A work you'd like to own?
The Rose by Jay DeFeo, a sublime painting by a liberated woman of the Beat Generation.

The artist who moves you most?
Sheila Hicks. Her works of textile fiber vines and the extraordinary color of her dyes never fail to incite a response in me.

Do you prefer the FIAC or Biennale Paris?
The FIAC, for the magic of the setting which only enhances the works of art on show.

Is there a guiding theme behind your acquisitions?
Without being fully aware of it, I think the work of female artists moves me most.
