This unpublished painting by Joseph Parrocel dates from the artist's last period, around 1694-1704, and depicts the devastation caused by soldiers seizing crops and herds in a conquered country. This is perhaps an allusion to the sack of the Palatinate in 1689 by Louis XIV's troops. Admire the magnificent golden light that illuminates the landscape.
