PARROCEL Joseph (1646-1704) Attack of soldiers Oil on canvas (old restorations, unframed) 67 x 112 cm We would like to thank Jérôme Delaplanche for confirming the attribution on the basis of a digital photo, and for providing us with the information below. This unpublished painting by Joseph Parrocel dates from the artist's last period, around 1694-1704, and depicts the devastation caused by soldiers seizing crops and herds in a conquered country. This is perhaps an allusion to the sack of the Palatinate in 1689 by Louis XIV's troops. Admire the magnificent golden light that illuminates the landscape.
