Exceptional Calabrian tumbler and saucer decorated in green monochrome with architecture (tower, bridge, etc.) in rural landscapes, a tree in the foreground, and gold filleting around the edges. The subjects were certainly inspired by the compositions of 17th-century Dutch artist
Anthonie WATERLOO or engravings by Sébastien LE CLERC.
Vert à Vincennes became known as Vert de Saxe.
Interlaced LL mark in stitch.
18th century (tiny chip on the rim of the cup).
Circa 1750-1752.
Height of cup: 8 cm - Diameter of saucer: 14 cm
Provenance :
Maison DRAGESCO-CRAMOISAN, Paris.
A similar cup and saucer, almost certainly by the same hand, are in the Musée des Arts Décoratifs, Paris (inv. 22623 A-B), as is a covered Calabrian sugar pot with a similar design in the Victoria & Albert Museum, London (inv.
C.47&A-1955). Together with the present model, these two objects remain the only known ones decorated in green monochrome, and were certainly part of the same lunch or tête à tête.
