French school of the end of the 18th century.
"Large allegorical scene during the French Revolution."
Painted panel (cracked halfway up, all the way through, restorations).
64 x 91 cm.
It seems that this panel could be an allegory of life, with children on the right, a man walking on the arms of a woman in the middle, and on the left, a man in chains and a grave. Some of the inscriptions are missing. The scene of a soldier in front of the grave is captioned "O venerable and magnanimous old man if from the earth where your pike-perch rests you could penetrate to us."
