Trần Văn Thọ is a Vietnamese painter born in 1917. He studied at the Hanoi School of Fine Arts and graduated in 1945. He quickly met with much success especially with his paintings on silk. He participated in many exhibitions around the world including the International Exhibition in Rome in 1950 and then settled permanently in France in the 1970s. His favorite subjects are portraits of young Vietnamese women and scenes that depict the intimacy of his models. Very attached to his culture and the history of Vietnamese arts, he likes to multiply references to Vietnam in his works.
