Large gold bracelet decorated with an oval miniature representing General Jean HARDŸ in profile, in general's uniform by Charles Guillaume BOURGEOIS (1759-1832), signed "Bourgeois An 10". Mother-of-pearl background. Mounted on a large bracelet with eight links, six of which are articulated, engraved with foliage, the two fixed links decorated with a green enamel interlace (small missing on one); two other links decorated in relief with foliage.
In a case, not of origin, covered like morocco, sheathed in the interior of silk and gray velvet.
Miniature : 48 x 42 mm. Gross weight : 45 gr.
Second part of the 19th century for the bracelet, work attributed to the house Mellerio.
According to family tradition, the miniature would have been offered by the Emperor Napoleon I to the widow of General Hardÿ.
Biography :
Charles Guillaume Alexandre BOURGEOIS (16 December 1759, Amiens - 7 May 1832, Paris) was a French painter, engraver, physicist and chemist. He was a student of the engraver Jean-Georges Wille and the painter and miniturist Franz Peter Kymli. As a painter, he is known mainly for his miniatures in shades of gray and bistre. Many of his miniatures are in French museums, including the Louvre, the Carnavalet and the Cognacq-Jay.
