BOOK OF HOURS FOR USE IN PARIS Paris, ca. 1500-1510 In Latin, illuminated manuscript on parchment; illuminated by the Master of the Parisian entries (Jean Coene IV) II + 189 ff. + II (f. 13 blank), quires of [2 bl.], 112, [1 miniature], 28-238, [2 bl.]; 170 x 110 mm. (98 x 70 mm.); on parchment; the calendar and text are written in 18 long lines in red and black ink; advertisements on ff. 21v, 29v, 37v, 45v, 53v, 61v, 69v, 85v, 93v, 101v, 109v, 117v, 125v, 133v, 141v, 149v, 157v, 165v (173v, 181, 189 without advertisement); semi-hybrida formata ; illustrated with 24 historiated lateral bands with gilt architectural framing with the works of the fields on the recto and the signs of the zodiac on the verso of the leaves, gilt initials watermarked on red or blue backgrounds, line ends; 14 full-page miniatures with gilt architectural framing, 26 vignettes of the saints in the suffrages; all by the Master of the Parisian entries. Secondary decorations: lateral bands with zoomorphic motifs, flowers and scrolls; painted three-line lettering; gilt lettering with alternating red and blue backgrounds; endpapers; rubrics. Slightly later binding (mid 16th century). Full dark brown morocco with rich decoration with irons called "à la fanfare", the boards include a large central diamond-shaped plate with an azure background combining interlacing and arabesques and developing around an empty oval compartment, completed by spandrels of the same motifs, the spaces between the two left free is sown with small irons and flowers, framed with double gilt fillets and large roulette with oval azure motifs. Spine with 5 nerves underlined by gilt fillets, 6 boxes framed with double gilt fillets, decorated with a double central fleuron, flowers and small azure irons; decorated edges, gilt and chased edges, copper clasps probably from the period.
