DEAD SEA
4 fragments of Dead Sea Scrolls; ink on leather; approx. 2.5 x 2 cm, 4 x 2 cm, 2.5 x 2 cm, 2 x 0.5 cm; heavily browned; each fragment under glass and light wood frame.
Very rare fragments from the Dead Sea Scrolls. Fragments from the Book of Isaiah, the Midrash of Genesis, and Deuteronomy. These fragments were purchased from the Kando family by Dr. William Noah in June 2004. They were presented to the public in 2003 in Nashville and Dallas, then in the Ink & Blood exhibition (2007-2009) in Idaho and Alabama. They have been studied by Prof. James H. Charlesworth (Princeton Theological Seminary, Princeton, New Jersey), Hanan Eshel (Bar-Ilan University, Tel Aviv), Emile Puech (École Biblique, Jerusalem).
These fragments are small and dark, as are many of these fragments; they are perfectly legible under infrared. They date from the second or first century BC. The two fragments of Isaiah are related to chapters XXIV (16-17) and XXIV (19-27), the first is in ancient Herodian script, the second in Hasmonean script. The fragment from Deuteronomy (XXIII, 3-4) is in Herodian calligraphy; that from Genesis in ancient Herodian script.
